Chief Project Manager - El Salvador, Higher Education

AMERICON is seeking a Chief Project Manager for an upcoming $22 million, 5-year Higher Education Program in El Salvador. The Program aims to build the human and institutional capacity development of Salvadoran higher education institutions and the effectiveness of key government and higher education entities to provide educational programs and research that contribute to the country’s economic growth. The Program is aimed at strengthening local Salvadoran Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to adequately respond to productive sector needs. The key focus areas of the Program include but are not limited to:

  • Qualified human capital, for the purpose of increasing quality of tertiary education, to include training for faculty, academic staff and researchers;
  • Relevance and quality of curricula and applied research, focusing on academic programs that respond to labor market needs; and
  • Strengthening HEIs institutional capacity and effectiveness for sustainability through linkages with US and regional HEIs, public entities and private sector firms, to improve quality, relevance, and access to tertiary education in key areas.

Duties

  • Management of all aspects of implementation in meeting the objectives of the contract including technical, administrative, operational, and logistical management of the project activities.
  • Act as the key liaison between USAID and all other counterparts and regional implementing partners involved with the program to achieve the results;
  • Serve as the main point of contact between the project, USAID and AMERICON HQ in Washington, DC.

Job Requirements

  • Advanced degree in education, economic development, project management, or related field;
  • At least 15-17 years of progressive experience managing large, complex higher education projects, preferably for USAID; Proven capability to design and implement business-led partnerships in workforce development;
  • Fluency in English and Spanish;
  • PMI certified PMP with an active status;
  • Sound Knowledge of IT;
  • Familiarity as how scientific research is done, and how higher education helps in developing scientific talents/careers;
  • Prior experience as Deputy Chief of Party / Project Manager with USAID project(s) preferred.
